Caravan Air Conditioner Buying Guide

Choosing a Caravan Air Conditioner

A caravan air conditioner provides temperature control for your living and sleeping areas. Choosing the right unit involves cooling capacity, heating performance, roof space, installation dimensions and the electrical supply.

VanDIY supplies the Global Heritage Breezonic Performance Plus 3.5kW rooftop air conditioner, combining reverse-cycle heating and cooling with a variable-speed inverter compressor, Bluetooth app control and integrated interior lighting.

Cooling Capacity and Electrical Consumption

The Breezonic Performance Plus provides 3500W of cooling capacity and 3600W of heating capacity.

These figures describe heating and cooling output, rather than electricity consumption. The operating manual lists current consumption of 6.5A in cooling and 6.0A in heating, with an AC 220–240V, 50/60Hz supply.

When choosing an air conditioner, consider the caravan’s interior volume, insulation, window area, layout and travel climate. These affect the amount of heating or cooling required.

Reverse-Cycle Heating and Cooling

Reverse-cycle operation provides cooling in warm weather and heating in cooler conditions.

This makes the rooftop unit useful across different seasons, with temperature control from the interior air distribution box or compatible Bluetooth app.

Variable-Speed Inverter Compressor

The inverter compressor adjusts its speed to match demand and uses a soft ramp-up.

“Inverter compressor” describes the air conditioner’s internal technology. It does not mean the unit connects directly to a 12V battery.

Roof Opening and Installation Dimensions

The Breezonic Performance Plus supports 360 × 360mm and 400 × 400mm roof openings.

The rooftop unit measures 1051mm long × 698mm wide × 250mm high. Installed product weight is listed as 38kg, excluding sealant.

Standard installation suits roof thicknesses of 25–65mm. Roofs from 65–100mm require an additional installation kit.

The installation layout also needs room for the interior air distribution box, roof support and clearance around nearby solar panels, hatches and other fittings.

Touch Controls, Bluetooth and Optional Remote

The interior air distribution box provides touch controls.

Bluetooth app control adds convenient access from a compatible phone or tablet. A handheld remote is optional.

Night Mode, Eco Mode and Turbo provide different operating choices, while warm or cool-white LED lighting has adjustable brightness.

Power at Campsites and Away from Mains

The air conditioner operates on AC power.

At powered sites, it uses the caravan’s suitable mains electrical supply. Battery operation requires an appropriately specified inverter, battery bank, cabling, protection and charging system.

Runtime depends on electrical demand, battery capacity, weather, insulation and thermostat settings. A battery’s amp-hour rating alone does not establish how long the air conditioner will run.
