Safety and Maintenance Checklist for Caravan Steps
Safety and Maintenance Checklist for Caravan Steps
A quick routine keeps steps safe, quiet and reliable on tour. Use this checklist before trips and after rough roads.
Before You Travel
- Fasteners - check bolt torque and bracket integrity.
- Treads - non-slip surface clean, no lifting edges.
- Lighting - LED strip or courtesy light working for night use.
- Stow lock - step locked firmly for travel.
After Corrugations or Beach Runs
- Rinse dust/salt and dry.
- Inspect pivot points; apply plastic-safe dry lube if specified.
- Check wiring looms for chafe or loose clips (automatic steps).
Periodic Checks
- Look for paint chips and treat to prevent corrosion.
- Confirm no fouling on skirts, mudflaps, tanks or drains.
- Verify step deploys level and square.
Tip
Carry a small brush and cloth to keep treads grippy in wet or muddy conditions.
