Caravan Hot Water System Buying Guide

Choosing a Caravan Hot Water System

A caravan hot water system supplies heated water for showers, washing dishes and everyday use while travelling.

The Global Heritage WTD128 combines a 28-litre storage tank with LPG gas and 240V electric heating. Use gas when travelling away from mains power, electric heating at a powered site, or both together for faster initial heating.

Storage Tank or Instantaneous Hot Water?

A storage system heats water held in a tank. An instantaneous system heats water as it flows through the appliance.

The WTD128 is a 28L storage system. Its available hot-water supply depends on the stored temperature, incoming water temperature, mixing and usage rate.

LPG Gas Heating

Universal LPG provides a heating option when mains electricity is unavailable.

The WTD128 also requires a 12V DC connection for its controls. The listed DC input is 12V, 0.65A.

Gas consumption is 7.5MJ/h, with a listed heating output of 1.82kW and gas efficiency of 90%.

Electric Heating at Powered Sites

The electric element is rated at 1.4kW and operates on 220–240V AC.

Electric heating provides an alternative to LPG when a suitable mains supply is available.

The 12V control connection does not power the electric heating element.

Combined Heating for Faster Initial Heat-Up

Gas and electric heating can operate together to heat the tank more quickly from cold.

Approximate times to heat water from 20°C to 65°C are:

Heating option Approximate heat-up time
LPG gas 58 minutes
Electric 50 minutes
Gas and electric together 28 minutes

These times apply to the stated temperature rise; starting conditions affect actual heating time.

The operating manual specifies combined heating for initial heat-up. Once the preset temperature is reached, switch off the gas heating when continuing with electric operation.

Dimensions and Installation Space

The WTD128 measures 390mm high × 390mm wide × 550mm deep and uses a 325 × 325mm wall cut-out.

Its listed unit weight is 12.2kg. The water carried in the tank adds to the installed operating weight.

When planning an installation, include space for the appliance body, rear water connections, exterior access and the required gas, electrical and plumbing connections.

Controls and Service Access

The system includes a control panel, integrated gas regulator and hinged black exterior access door.

A securing strap is provided for the installation.

Sacrificial Anode and Maintenance

The sacrificial anode helps protect the tank against corrosion and requires periodic inspection and replacement.

The operating manual covers draining, sediment removal, pressure-relief valve checks and servicing. Keeping access available makes these maintenance tasks easier.
