Help move trapped heat out of your roof space with the SolarKing Wireless V4 solar roof fan. Available from VanDIY for Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Queensland customers, this model combines solar-powered extraction with a supplied wireless remote for convenient control.
Suitable for appropriate home, garage and shed roof installations, the fan draws air from the roof cavity while replacement air enters through eave vents or other suitable openings. Its solar-powered motor provides active extraction without relying on wind to turn a traditional whirlybird.
The Wireless V4 adds adjustable speeds, timers and a temperature override, giving you more control over when and how your roof space is ventilated.
Help Reduce Heat Build-Up Above Your Ceiling
Roof-space ventilation gives warm air a path outside rather than allowing it to remain trapped beneath the roof.
The SolarKing Wireless V4 has a manufacturer-stated maximum airflow capacity of 2,100 m³/h. Installed airflow varies with sunlight, roof layout, fan position and the available openings for replacement air.
For Queensland homes, roof ventilation can complement ceiling insulation, shading and other measures used to manage summer heat. The fan ventilates the roof cavity; it does not provide refrigerated cooling or guarantee a particular indoor temperature reduction.
Wireless Remote Included
Use the supplied remote to:
- Turn the fan on or off.
- Select quarter, half, three-quarter or full speed.
- Set a 1, 2, 4 or 8-hour timer.
- Override the normal temperature setting when you want ventilation in cooler conditions.
The remote has a stated range of up to 20 metres under suitable conditions. The V4 also remembers your last selected speed setting without requiring the optional mains power supply.
Automatic Temperature Control and Daily Ventilation
During normal automatic operation, the fan starts when the roof-space temperature rises above approximately 25°C and sufficient power is available.
The Wireless V4 also includes a daily ventilation function, described by SolarKing as its anti-mould function. When enabled, it runs for approximately 15 minutes a day during cooler conditions when solar power is available.
This provides additional air movement below the usual temperature threshold. It does not remove existing mould or repair the source of a moisture problem. The daily function can be switched off using the remote.
Optional Mains Backup for After-Sunset Operation
An optional 240V AC to 15V DC power supply allows the fan to operate when sunlight is insufficient, including after sunset.
When connected, the backup supply can take over automatically as solar input falls. Operation from this supply is limited to a maximum of three-quarter speed. Normal temperature control still applies unless overridden using the remote.
The backup power supply is sold separately and requires a suitable power outlet. Without it, the fan relies on available solar power.
Construction and Roof Compatibility
A 42W solar panel powers the 35W brushless DC motor. The unit combines an aluminium top cover and flashing with an electroplated steel body and brackets, plus stainless-steel fasteners.
The fan is suitable for appropriate tiled, metal and flat-roof installations. Positioning the panel for good sunlight and providing a clear replacement-air path helps the system ventilate effectively.
The number of fans required depends on the roof cavity’s volume, layout and ventilation openings, rather than bedroom count alone.
