Caravan Toilet Buying Guide – Cassette & Portable

Choosing a Toilet for Your Caravan or Campervan

The right caravan toilet depends on your bathroom layout, installation plans and how you want to manage flushing water and waste.

VanDIY supplies SJRV swivel cassette toilets, bench-style cassette toilets and self-contained portable toilets. Permanent cassette models suit fitted bathrooms, while portable models provide flexibility for campervans, camper trailers and camping setups.

Cassette Toilets and Portable Toilets

A permanently installed cassette toilet remains fixed in the bathroom while its removable waste tank is taken out for emptying.

A portable toilet combines a flushing-water section and a removable waste-holding section in a movable unit. It does not require the same permanent bathroom installation.

Both store waste for emptying at a suitable disposal facility.

W5000 Swivel Cassette Toilet

The W5000 has a bowl that rotates up to 90° in either direction, providing flexibility within a compact bathroom.

Its electric flush uses a 12V DC supply and connects to the vehicle’s flushing-water supply. Waste collects in a removable 17.2L cassette with wheels and a pull handle.

Soft-close operation and a magnetic lid-retention mechanism help reduce lid movement and noise. A level indicator alerts you when the cassette needs emptying.

W50011 Bench Cassette Toilet

The W50011 combines a bench-style toilet with a built-in 14.4L flushing-water tank and a separate removable 20L waste cassette.

Left-side and right-side service-access options allow the toilet to suit different bathroom layouts. The cassette includes wheels and a pull handle.

The toilet also features a magnetic slow-closing lid and a waste-tank indicator.

W5002 Portable Toilet

The W5002 is available with a 12L or 20L waste-holding tank. Both sizes have a separate 14L fresh-water tank for flushing.

The smaller model provides a more compact option. The larger 20L model includes wheels and a trolley handle for transporting the waste section.

Its self-contained flushing-water storage makes it useful where permanent toilet plumbing is not part of the setup.

Flush-Water Capacity and Waste Capacity

These measurements describe separate tanks.

The flushing-water tank stores clean water. The waste tank collects toilet waste and used flushing water.

For example, the W50011’s 14.4L figure describes its fresh-water tank; its waste cassette holds 20L.

Choose waste capacity around your expected use and emptying arrangements. Larger tanks hold more waste but also become heavier as they fill.

Bathroom Layout and Service Access

For a permanent cassette installation, plan space for the toilet, lid movement, comfortable use and cassette removal.

The W5000’s swivel bowl provides positioning flexibility. The W50011 offers left or right cassette access to suit the service-door location.

For portable toilets, consider storage space, carrying access and where the toilet will be positioned during use.

Emptying and Routine Care

Empty the waste tank at a suitable toilet-waste disposal facility.

Keep the bowl, cassette and seals clean, using products compatible with the selected toilet. Emptying frequency depends on use and tank capacity rather than a fixed number of days.
